I love food, and I’ve wanted to start a food company for as long as I can remember. I grew up with a mom who is an incredible cook, and a dad who is really into healthy foods. So I guess it’s not a surprise that as an adult, I’m obsessed with discovering, eating and making healthy foods that taste great.
Several years ago, I was grocery shopping and a woman was sampling a new healthy snack. It tasted okay but when I turned the package over – I was disappointed to see it had a ton of fat and little nutrition.
That was the beginning of what led me to start Biena. So many of the healthy snacks on the market today leave you feeling unsatisfied. They leave you wanting more – because they don’t taste great, they don’t fill you up, or they’re full of junk.
With my South Asian heritage, I grew up eating lots of lentils and chickpeas. But it wasn’t till that experience that I started thinking about whether I could use them to create a new kind of snack. Something that’s tasty, helps fill you up with good stuff, and doesn’t have all the fat and artificial ingredients that are in so many snacks out there.
Some 500+ test batches later, we’ve developed a unique roasting process and some incredibly delicious flavor blends that have led us to create Biena Roasted Chickpeas in 4 awesome flavors.
